2012 Civic Works Expo
The Civil Works Expo is positioned as a cost effective civil construction related event aimed at promoting and selling civil construction related products and services. The Expo specifically targets the earthmoving, civil construction, public works, quarrying and related industries.
It provided an ideal opportunity to launch new products, generate sales and leads, highlight industry changes as well as developing and maintaining contacts.
A key component of the Civil Works Expo is the demonstration program where potential purchasers can trial machines such as excavators, backhoes, wheel loaders, skid steers, mini diggers and telehandlers in a controlled environment. With the high cost of floating machines the Civil Works Expo is a cost effective way to demonstrate and sell machinery.
The greatly expanded demonstration area saw some 33 machines put through their paces, including Bobcat skidsteer, excavators and telehandler, various Case skidsteer loaders and excavators, JCB excavator and 8t backhoe, heavy-duty excavators from Kobelco and Komatsu, Kubota excavators, Terex Posi-Track PT50 skidsteer, Thwaites hi-swivel site dumper, Vermeer mini diggers and Wacker Neuson excavator and 1.5t site dumper.
Prospective buyers had the opportunity to 'trial before you buy' in the demonstration areas.
Another interesting demonstration was conducted by Stabilised Pavements of Australia and Eko-Soil presenting cost effective pavement solutions followed by an on-site enzyme based road stabilisation demonstration.
The Expo was supported and endorsed by key industry bodies including the Civil Contractors Federation, Municipal Works Officers Association, Institute of Public Works Engineering and the Road Marking Industry Association of Australia, The Construction Materials Processors Association, Australian Stabilisation Industry Association and Master Plumbers & Mechanical Services Association of Australia.
Other activities associated with the Expo included the Civil Contractors Industry lunch, and "Spotters" & "Traffic Management" refresher courses being run by the Victorian Civil Contractors Federation "Civil Train", during Civil Works Expo.
A number of newly released products were on show including Case Construction's new series of skid steer loaders, including the SR130 with an ROC of 590kg - Case's first skid steer in that size. The new range consists of nine new models - six skid steers and three vertical lift models. JCB had a wide range of equipment on site including the new ECO backhoe loader range and new JCB 550-80 telehandler. Offering a maximum of lift capacity of 5 tonnes and height of 8.1 metres, the 550-80 is JCB's highest capacity telehandler. New machines from Caterpillar included the Cat 300.9D and 301.4C mini hydraulic excavators, and the heavy-duty Cat 323DL hydraulic excavator. Wacker Neuson also had a host of new machines including their new four wheel dumpers, 1404 tracked excavator, and compactors.
Other standout heavy-duty equipment included the latest from Liebherr 556, Hyundai HL740-9, Case CX240B, JCB JS360 excavator, Sumitomo SH130 Komatsu WA250PZ and Doosan DX180LC and DL300.
Undoubtedly the Civic Works Expo had strong manufacturer and dealer support with an incredible cross-section of machinery on display, and a brilliant demonstrator range available.
