Isuzu expands Giga range
Dubbed the 415 CXZ/CXY Premium (415 is its horsepower figure) and slotting in between the 350 FX range and the 455 CXZ/CXY Giga, the new model can be specified with either steel (CXZ) or Hendrickson-airbag (CXY) rear suspension.
Powering the 415 is a detuned version of the 15.7-litre, six-cylinder SiTEC series III engine used in the other Giga models. The Euro-V emission standards engine is good for 309kW at 1800rpm and a thumping 1863Nm at a lazy 1300rpm.
The 415 comes standard with Isuzu's 12-speed automated manual transmission and Meritor axles with standard diff cross locks for improved traction.
Because of the new Giga's 24,000kg GVM and 54,000kg GCM, it is ideal for a wide variety of short-haul prime mover or rigid-truck applications.
In the safety department, the Giga 415 comes standard with a driver's airbag and seatbelt pretensioners, ABS brakes, an ECE-R29-compliant cabin and a front- underrun protection device.
Inside the new truck's spacious cabin is a top-of-the-range Isri 6860 seat with integrated seatbelt and an ADR 42-compliant sleeper with mattress - which is just the thing for short road-side rest stops.
Other standard goodies include fully integrated climate-control air conditioning and Isuzu's multi-media system that bundles radio/CD and Bluetooth - features that are accessed via a 4.80-inch LCD touch screen. The versatile system also has SD card, USB and 3.5 mm plug inputs.
Isuzu Australia's Product Planning and Engineering Support Manager, Colin White, says the Giga 415 broadens the application base of Isuzu's heavy duty range.
"The Giga 415 will sit very comfortably between the 350 hp FX range and its more powerful Giga stablemates which have power of 455 and 510 hp respectively," he said.
"The specification lends itself exceptionally well to tipper and dog or local prime- mover work. Both private and local government buyers will appreciate a vehicle that well satisfies OH&S considerations through strong driver comfort and safety features, matched with Isuzu's renowned reliability," White added.
Giga 415 buyers can choose from a range of additional optional goodies including an extra fuel tank, an air-deflector kit incorporating roof and side fairings and satellite navigation with NAVTEQ mapping that integrates with the multi-media unit. Up to three audio/visual reversing cameras can also be specified. A FUPD bull bar and standard bull bar are also on the options menu.
