Iveco Powerstar 7800 roadtrain. Iveco's new Star
Blending power, comfort and unparalleled heavy haulage capabilities, whilst boasting the lightest cab chassis available in the heavy vehicle transport market, the Iveco Powerstar7800 Roadtrain has been specifically developed for Australian roads to withstand Australia's harsh conditions.
Following on from the successful Powerstar 6400 and 7200 models, the Australian designed, engineered and manufactured Powerstar 7800 boasts a 140 tonne GCM, with chassis upgrades to back you up, not matter what you are hauling. Meritor rear axles sit on an increased axle spread of the 56 inch cantilever suspension, with the front 6.5 tonne Meritor axle supported on parabolic springs. Steering geometry gives an industry-leading wheel cut angle of 50 degrees and super-single steer tyres are mounted on aluminium rims or spiders.
Powered by the class-leading 15 litre Cummins ISX Signature engine (as per the Powerstar 7200) that's Euro 5 compliant, the Powerstar 7800 offers an impressive 600Hp / 2050Ib/ft power/torque figure, with 485 and 525hp variants to suit specific operator requirements also available. The ISX uses cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) to meet emissions compliance, while requiring no changes to the proven ISX base engine design. Apart from the driveability provided by the Cummins VGT (Variable Geometry Turbocharger), the ISX also delivers best-in-industry engine brake performance with 600 retarding horsepower.
The Powerstar's Cummins ISX is supported by a class leading 1930 square inch radiator/cooling package and coupled with an Eaton RTLO 22918B Roadranger transmission. Four 450 litre aluminium fuel tanks are standard equipment, to keep you running for the longest of hauls.
Being Australian-designed, the Powerstar 7800 features good things inside the cabin, as well as under the bonnet. Low and high roof models are available, and the sleeper cab is roomy, with the interior offering a factory fitted 56 inch seat-to-rear-sleeper-wall spacing. There are plenty of spacious lockers, and with an inner spring mattress and other goodies, your Powerstar 7800 is truly a home away from home. Custom comfort options include an in-cab fridge, leather seats and second bunk.
Speaking at the Melbourne ITTES, Iveco Trucks Australia Limited Director of Sales and Marketing John Koot said the new Powerstar 7800 Roadtrain is simply in a league of its own.
"We're honoured to unveil the first Powerstar 7800 at the International Truck, Trailer & Equipment Show. Our product engineers have worked incredibly hard to develop a unique product that blends an American driveline and European comfort into an Australian made truck."
Managing Director of Robertson's Transport, Greg Robertson, was the first person to take delivery of the new Powerstar 7800, and was at the ITTES to take a closer look at the latest addition to his fleet, as the Powerstar 7800 on display was his!
"We had great success with previous Powerstar models. The opportunity to be a test pilot for Australia's next transport icon is extremely exciting and on behalf of Robertsons Transport I'd like to thank Iveco for developing a prime mover that is world-class," Mr Robertson said.
In addition to general highway haulage roadtrain work, Iveco see applications for the Powerstar 7800 in livestock transport and timber hauling, as well as for side tippers and other heavy haulage requirements.
