New leadership at Hino Australia
There’s a new boss at Hino Australia, with Richard Emery succeeding Takashi ‘Sam’ Suda as President and CEO. The change, which came into effect from 1 February, sees Emery step up from the role of Vice President of Brand and Franchise Development he’s held since the beginning of 2022. Suda is retiring after a 40-year career at Toyota and Hino that has included serving as President and CEO of Hino Australia for the last five years.
Speaking of his replacement, Suda said Emery had “demonstrated his excellent leadership and management skills” over the past two years, adding that he had built strong connections with Hino’s dealer partners and provided important strategic direction to sales operations through a challenging supply environment.
“I am confident I am leaving Hino Australia in his capable hands,” Suda said.
Emery brings more than three decades of sales, marketing and business development experience in the automotive and trucking industry to the top job at Hino Australia. From 2014 to 2017, Emery was the CEO and Managing Director of Nissan Australia, with senior executive roles at Mercedes Benz, Audi and Land Rover before that. Born and raised in Victoria, Emery would perhaps be better known for his time with Mitsubishi Australia, spending six years there in senior positions, including national marketing manager and regional manager for South Australia and Western Australia.
Emery has also been a board member of the FCAI (Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries) and currently represents Hino on the Truck Industry Council.
Emery thanked Mr Suda for his leadership of Hino Australia.
“Sam has led Hino Motor Sales Australia through a difficult five-year period which included two years of COVID lockdowns. His calmness and astute business approach provided Hino with a business environment that saw us achieve record sales in 2021.
“Critically, Sam oversaw the development and opening of Hino Australia’s new Parts Distribution Centre in 2021, which has allowed our business to provide our customers with the service levels they require.
“[Sam’s] tenure also saw the launch of our acclaimed all-new 500 Series Standard Cab and 700 Series models, and the introduction of our market-leading telematics platform, Hino-Connect.
“On behalf of Hino Australia, I would like to thank Sam for his exceptional leadership.”
